Victoria Blackie, Native American country singer has recently been nominated in eight categories in the 2010 Native American Music Awards (Nammys). She is recognized as an outstanding contributor to country music and is ranked alongside some of the greatest in this field.

A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Victoria discovered her talent at a young age although she hasn’t really been given the deserved attention that normally is given to persons with her singing ability. After learning about her nomination, Victoria said, “I am honored and thrilled at this announcement and no matter the outcome I am honored to be nominated into this program.”

The Native American Music Awards was founded in 1998 and designed to honor outstanding achievements of contemporary Native American musicians.  The awards have seen performances from many celebrated artistes such as Crystal Gayle, Rita Coolidge, and Grateful Dead among others.

Ms. Blackie’s first album ‘Wanted Man’ was produced by Robert Metzgar, Legends Hall of Fame Producer, himself a nominee in the NAMMYS in the best producer category.  This album has been responsible for her receiving many awards and compliments. She was described by The Chicago Tribune as ‘the first and only real’ country artist to come out of Nashville in years.

She won two awards at the recently held Indian Summer Festival in Best Country and Best blues categories.  The 2010 NAMMYS awards will be held in New York November 12, 2010.
