Nicolas Cage’s plea to the United Nations in fighting organized crime is the highlight of a recently released video produced by Reuters.

Mr. Cage, a Hollywood star, is also Goodwill Ambassador for Global Justice for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Speaking on behalf of the victims of organized crime he made his plea while speaking to the United Nations Conference on Transnational Crime held recently in Vienna, Austria. He urged the UN members to do more to stem the tide of organized crime.

During his speech he mentioned his encounter with child victims in East Africa. Many of them Mr. Cage explained were a part of the sex trafficking trade and others were former child soldiers. He said that he played many roles in his acting career but none as challenging as what he does now.

“At some point I wanted to stop being an actor and start taking action,” he said.

Nicolas Cage had previously donated $2,000,000 to help establish a fund aimed at helping former child soldiers. He also led a campaign around his 2005 movie ‘Lord of War’ to raise awareness about arms control.

More information on his address to the conference can be seen in the video.
